米勒提出了揭示由成功走向失败的四条主要“轨道”：

* 焦点轨道造就了谨小慎微、质量导向的手工艺人。把具有熟练工程师和经营无懈可击的组织变成了僵化的、迷恋于细节的补锅匠，企业保守的技术统治文化用完美的但却是不相干的东西疏远了顾客。
